social media myths: why more followers don't equal more money
Let's face it, we've all been on social media a lot more recently. With all the chaos happening right now, we're desperately searching for connection, consistency, and some semblance of calm.
We're also searching for income. I get it, me too.
While we're mostly all working from home, scrolling on social amidst self-isolation, I want to use this time away from others to clear up the ever-so prevalent social media myth that MORE followers = MORE money in your pocket.
Let's get into it.
Myth: More followers = more money
As much as we want to believe that the second we crack 1,000 or 10,000 followers, we'll have customers and orders rolling in... that's not how it works.
Follower count has no direct correlation to the amount of money you make.
It's about how you USE your followers (let's call them our community, shall we?).
Are you using your community for vanity purposes? To simply "appear" professional or like you run a successful freelance business?
Or are you using your community to create real transformations? To provide your audience with tools, resources, products, or strategies that help them achieve their goal?
I'll say it again: More followers do not equal more money.
Especially…
If your community is fake/full of bots.
If your community is unengaged.
If your community doesn't know who you are, what you stand for, and how you can help them.
Now is the time to get clear on your messaging — who you help, why you want to help, how you're qualified to help, and how you actually help them (the transformation that occurs).
When you're clear on that, you realize you can make a huge impact with 800, 500, or even 300 followers.
So, use this time of self-isolation to engage with the community you currently have. You don't necessarily need MORE eyes on your services, you need the RIGHT eyes on them.
